Leadership Team

John Kearney, Chairman of Buchans, is a mining executive with more than 50 years of experience in the mining industry. He is currently a director or senior officer of numerous mineral ventures including Labrador Iron Mines Holdings Limited and Canadian Manganese Company Inc.  He formerly served as a director of the Mining Association of Canada. He holds degrees in law and economics from the University College Dublin and a Masters in Business Administration from Trinity College Dublin. He is a member of the Law Society of Ireland.

Mr. Moore has more than 30 years of experience in mineral exploration focused largely on eastern Canada. He has served in senior technical roles with industry and government organizations including Senior Geologist and Assistant to the Vice President of North American Exploration with Teck Corporation, Senior Geologist with Anglo American, and as Mineral Deposits Geologist with the Newfoundland and Labrador Geological Survey. Mr. Moore holds a M.Sc. in Earth Sciences from Memorial University, is a professional geoscientist registered with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Engineers & Geoscientists New Brunswick. Paul currently serves as a Director of Newfoundland and Labrador’s mining industry association, Mining NL.

Mr. Dawson has more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry in areas of corporate development, investor relations (IR), mineral exploration and journalism. He has spent the past 25 years working with several Canadian-based mining and exploration companies, including NorZinc Ltd., Aura Minerals Ltd., Rio Narcea Gold Mines Ltd. and Campbell Resources Ltd., developing and implementing many successful IR programs. He also has supported efforts which raised in excess of $150 million to advance companies’ key projects. Steve holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Toronto and is a member the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Investor Relations.

Mr. Butler has more than 30 years of mineral exploration experience primarily in eastern Canada. Prior to joining Buchans Resources, he worked with Falconbridge and Voisey’s Bay Nickel on numerous VMS and Nickel projects. Over the past 14 years he has worked with Buchans Resources on projects in Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick. David has extensive GIS experience and a vast amount of technical and logistical knowledge in exploration, mineral resource development and many other aspects of mining. He is a registered Professional Geoscientist, a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland and has served on the Board of Directors of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Downey is a Canadian chartered accountant and an Institute of Corporate Directors Certified Director with over 35 years of experience in the mining industry. He has been a director, CEO and CFO of Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange listed companies, including Northgate Minerals Corp., The companies he has been associated with have been involved in numerous mining operations primarily involving gold and copper mines in Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico and the USA. Mr. Downey is Chairman of the Audit Committee of Buchans.

Mr. McParland is the founder and Managing Director of Quarry and Mining Equipment (QME), a leader in supplying remanufactured LHD scooptrams and drilling equipment and mining contracting services to the mining industry worldwide, based in Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland.

Mr. Power is a director of Greencastle Resources Ltd., Moydow Resources Limited, Conroy Gold and Natural Resources Plc, Great Lakes Nickel Limited and Minerex Drilling Contractors Limited. He is a Professional Engineer registered in Ontario and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst with 50 years of experience in the mining industry in Canada and worldwide. Based in Toronto, Mr. Power was formerly Vice President and Secretary of Moydow Mines International Inc., Vice-President of Corporate Development at Hemlo Gold Mines Ltd. and previously Noranda Mines. Mr. Power is a member of the Audit Committee.

Mr. McKillen is a retired professional geologist with 47 years of experience in the mining industry. He was Chief Executive of Minco from 2007 until April 2013. He holds degrees in geology from the University of Dublin (Trinity College) and the University of Leicester. He is a lifetime honorary member of the Association of Professional Geoscientist of Ontario. Mr. McKillen is a director of Xtierra Inc. and Conquest Resources Limited. He has extensive experience in exploration and development projects in Ireland, Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, as well as North, Central and South America.
